You know their faces and you even know some of their names. They’re the family members, lovers and hangers-on who have littered the Rolling Stones’ lives during the band’s 35-year career.
Some, such as Mick Jagger’s ex-wife, Bianca, have survived nicely, and built lives for themselves away from the excesses of rock ‘n’ roll. Others (Anita Pallenberg, Mandy Smith) still are getting used to not being on the world’s most famous guest list.
Chris Jagger: Though better looking than his famous older brother Mick, 49-year-old Chris Jagger had a rougher time breaking into show business. He dabbled in a little bit of everything. Jagger designed clothes for hip scenesters in London, including a jacket that made it on the cover of a Jimi Hendrix album jacket. He wrote for music magazines. He studied with Stella Adler and tried acting. But in the end, Jagger returned to his roots: music. His focus, however, is more on bluegrass than bluesy rock. Jagger lives with his wife of 16 years, Kari-Ann Moller, and their two teenage sons, John and Robert.
Bianca Jagger: When she was married to lookalike husband Mick, Jagger was a denizen of Studio 54 and other hot nightspots. These days, the New York-based Jagger works on raising funds and awareness on behalf of her native Nicaragua and other Central America countries. She and Jagger have one daughter – Jade.
Jade Jagger: Like fellow celeb child Lisa Marie Presley, 25-year-old Jagger tried modeling (for Pretty Polly stockings) before settling into a career as an artist. She and her daughters Assisi, 5, and Amba, 2, live in London. She dates artist Euan McDonald.
Piers Jackson: The father of Mick’s grandchildren Amba and Assisi, Jackson met Jade Jagger when he was an 18-year-old art student. After almost 10 years together, the couple – who never married – split. Taking a cue from his ex-girlfriend’s stint as a model, Jackson has since signed with London’s Take Two modeling agency.
Jerry Hall: After a car accident when she was a teen, the leggy Texan used the insurance settlement to get a nose job and moved to Paris to model. She was dating Bryan Ferry when she met Mick Jagger, who was still married to Bianca. After more than 12 years together, Jagger finally acquiesced and married Hall in a Hindu ritual Nov. 21, 1990, in Bali. But the legalities of the marriage have always been in question. The Hindu leader who presided over the ceremony renounced the wedding, citing Jagger’s ambiguous commitment to the Hindu faith. Nonetheless, Hall refers to the Rolling Stone as her husband. They have three children together and are expecting a fourth in December.
Patti Hansen: Keith Richards married his model girlfriend in 1983, with Mick Jagger as his best man. After putting her career on hold to raise their two daughters and mother Richards, Hansen has returned to modeling.
Anita Pallenberg: Pallenberg raised a few eyebrows when it was rumored that she, Richards, Jagger and his girlfriend Marianne Faithfull were switching partners. Rumors also circulated that she practiced witchcraft on the Stones, which she denied. The beautifully icy model-turned-actress co-starred with Jane Fonda in “Barbarella.” The common–law wife of Keith Richards, she gave birth to their son Marlon in 1969 and to daughter Dandelion in 1972.Years of drug and alcohol abuse wreaked havoc on her striking beauty. In recent years, Pallenberg has cleaned up her act and is said to be looking for more acting roles.
Marlon Richards: Keith’s 28-year-old son is a doppelganger for his father at the same age. An artist and part-time model, Marlon is married to supermodel Lucie de la Falaise. The couple have a child, Ella Rose, who was born in Connecticut. Dandelion has opted for a quieter lifestyle after being raised by her grandmother.
Dylan Jagger Lee: The little tyke hasn’t been born yet, but Pamela Anderson Lee announced on “The Tonight Show” a couple weeks ago that she was pregnant again and that she and hubby Tommy Lee (of Motley Crue) planned on naming their second son Dylan Jagger Lee, after Mick. Asked if the first name was in honor of Jakob Dylan’s dad Bob, a confused-looking Pamela answered, “No.”
Marianne Faithfull: She was a schoolgirl when she was “discovered” by Mick Jagger and company. They wrote “As Tears Go By” for her. Her sweet delivery perfectly complemented the ballad and catapulted the baroness’ daughter to the spotlight as the reigning It girl of the ’60s. Her substance abuse – which included an addiction to smack – was played up when she was found dazed and clad only in a fur rug during a drug raid at Keith Richards’ mansion. Sounding huskier and more mature, Faithfull scored a hit with her 1979 comeback album “Broken English.” She is still recording and touring.
Twiggy: The spindly predecessor to this generation of waif models – including Marlon Richards’ wife Lucie de la Falaise – Twiggy (nee Lesley Hornby) was the bone-thin standard that every young girl in the ’60s tried to emulate. A London mod who was photographed with her friends the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, Twiggy gained a little weight and launched a career as an actress. Now working on her second autobiography, 48-year-old actress is also penning a screenplay.
Bill Wyman: Since quitting the Rolling Stones in 1993, the former Stones bassist has made a career for himself as a restaurateur. He opened a chain of restaurants in the United Kingdom called Sticky Fingers, which was popular wwith Princess Diana and her princes Harry and William who, at 15, is two years older than the age of Wyman’s ’80s girlfriend and later wife (now ex) Mandy Smith. Wyman has remained active in charity fund-raising.
Mandy Smith: Smith was just a 13-year-old when Wyman asked her out. He was more than 30 years her senior. The relationship lasted until she was 16. In an odd romantic twist, Wyman’s son and Smith’s mother dated each other for a while. Smith, who has spoken longingly of a modeling and acting career, hasn’t made an impact in either field. She is just 26.
