Do Something!

Bulletin to all former bridesmaids: Here’s your chance to give your dress to someone who can appreciate it. Among clothing items collected by the Hyde Park-based Caring Closet are seldom-worn party dresses that can be given to Chicago-area girls who cannot afford a new prom dress.

But the largess doesn’t stop there, says Carl Collier, who founded the organization (www.caringcloset.org) four years ago: “We accept all types of things. Pots, pans, beds, furniture, soap, clothes for everyone from infants to men and women, blankets, non-perishable food, computers, school supplies. We charge a minimal amount to those who can afford it. But for those truly in need, we give the donations away at no cost.”

In addition to your contributions, which Caring Closet volunteers pick up at no cost, the group also seeks individuals to volunteer to pick up those items. For more information, call (773) 489-0640.
