Wanna meet the woman behind Sex & the City? Meet Candace Bushnell at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barnes & Noble, 1441 W. Webster, when she’ll read from her latest book Four Blondes (Atlantic Monthly Press, $12). Meanwhile, she opens up about nagging, her boyfriend and the contents of her purse.
• Women who have the hardest time are the ones who’re married, have kids and work outside the home. They never have a minute for themselves. If you’re a single woman, you should consider yourself lucky.
• Nagging never works. The only thing that works is doing your own thing. I was told when I was younger to never let men know you care too much. I always felt like I had to care and I’d build my world around whoever I was dating. You can’t rely on the fact that he’s going to call and be there all the time. You need to have your own life.
• My purse is always filled with sunglasses, contact lens solution, a wallet, Chapstick, powder, maybe some earrings and my passport. I travel so much I just leave it in my bag.
• My boyfriend was going to London. An hour before he was leaving for the airport, he convinced me to go with him. I decided to be spontaneous and go away with him for the weekend. It was fun. Sometimes it’s good to do spur of the moment things. Women tend to be regimented about their schedules.
• Marriage is something my boyfriend and I don’t worry about. We have a great time together and that’s really the important thing. Relationships are supposed to be fun.
