What’s new, Pussycat? The Dolls, baby–as in the Pussycat Dolls. The eight-year-old revolving troupe of sexy dancers and singers is the brainchild of Robin Antin, but it’s famous for Carmen Electra, who has become the troupe’s marquee star.
Not an easy feat, considering that A-listers such as Charlize Theron and No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani have bumped and grinded onstage as guest Dolls. The lineup in this throwback to burlesque has included Christina Applegate, Brittany Murphy, Jaime Pressly, Nikka Costa and Christina Aguilera, who adhered to a less-is-more approach when it came to costumes. Fishnet stockings, hot pants, barely there bras and, of course, very high heels, are de rigueur.
Originally an opening act at Johnny Depp’s Viper Room in Los Angeles, the Pussycat Dolls now is a phenomenon unto itself, having appeared in men’s magazines and on late-night talk shows. But not all the guest babes are women. Cris Judd–the former Mr. Jennifer Lopez–was one of six male dancers backing up Electra and Pressly during a recent performance.
And somebody warn Ozzy Osbourne quick: Electra recently told US magazine Kelly Osbourne has been invited to join the litter.
