Lawd knows Lori Petty’s a busy woman. She’s an actress, painter, director and writer.
But that hasn’t stopped the quirky actress from adding designer to her list of credits. Best known for her work in “A League of Their Own” and “Point Break,” Petty has a year-old line of casual wear called Lawd Knows that reflects her inspirational side.
“There are many ways to be creative and express art and life,” Petty says in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. “The only reason I got into clothes designing is because people walk around with them on, so therefore it’s a great way to communicate with other people. I saw all these women wearing these shirts that didn’t have very nice messages on them. Instead of saying ‘I slept with your boyfriend,’ let’s put art and beauty and truth on these shirts.”
Lori Petty will appear at two local trunk shows to tout her Lawd Knows line at:
Her supersoft line of T-shirts and sweats declare positive messages such as, “For Love, Be Love. For Peace, Be Peace,” “Can’t You Hear the Angels’ Voices?” and “Study War No More.”
And while the actress is petite and fit, her line is surprisingly forgiving to those who aren’t a perfect size 6.
Petty will be doing two trunk shows tonight at Amy James in Geneva and Friday at Shane in Wrigleyville.
“I’ll be there to show off the clothes and sign autographs and kiss babies if anyone wants to stop by,” Petty says. “It’s going to be fun.”
Lawd Knows items, which range in price from $55 to $125, are available at local boutiques and at www.lawdknows.com.
