Matt Czuchry played the ideal boyfriend on shows such as “Friday Night Lights” and “The Gilmore Girls.” But it’s his role as conflicted attorney Cary Agos on the critically acclaimed series “The Good Wife” that is a showcase for the boyishly handsome actor, who looks much younger than his 33 years. Czuchry currently splits his time between both coasts.

“New York City and Los Angeles are two very different yet equally incredible places,” he says. “Where you live is such a defining piece of who you are and I am so grateful to have both of these locations to shape me.

“The Good Wife” airs Tuesdays on CBS.

Q. What is your favorite vacation destination?

A. Charleston, S.C. I went to college in Charleston, so the city is filled with beautiful memories, experiences and friends. It’s truly one of my most favorite places in the world, because it’s colored by so many moments that are close to my heart.

Q. What are your favorite restaurants?

A. For me, food and restaurants are all about capturing defining moments — of celebrating, connecting and storytelling. I had my college graduation party at Hanks Seafood Restaurant in Charleston. That evening was filled with everything that is beautiful about sharing a meal together. There is a lot of love sprinkled throughout Hanks because of that gathering and that is why it remains one of my favorite restaurants to this day.

I also love the Knickerbocker Bar and Grill in New York City. The food is amazing and the fellowship created there is special. The owners and everyone who works there are incredibly kind and generous.

Q. When you go away, what are some of your must-have items?

A. I love creating specific playlists for particular trips in an effort to mark the moment while you are on the journey and also to tap back into when you return. Both music and traveling are very important ways for me to learn about myself through new experiences. So an iPod plays an important role when traveling. I also have a specific backpack that is a must-have for me when I go away. I love throwing a few essentials in a bag, freeing myself and going out to experience life fully.

Q. What are your five favorite cities?

A. Manhattan, because of the culture and energy. Charleston for its peacefulness, the Southern food, my friends and memories. Oia (in Santorini), Greece, where you linger over six-course meals, as you watch the sunset over the cliffs down to the water. Vienna, Austria, for the classical music. And Banff (in Alberta), Canada, is a magical place.

Q. What kind of research do you do before you go away on a trip?

A. I love the process of discovering a new place through research and planning a trip so that you can maximize your traveling experience upon arrival. Talking to people who live in or have traveled to the place you are visiting is the key to understanding a place that you are unfamiliar with. Those people can be friends, family, or even strangers, it doesn’t matter. It’s their firsthand knowledge of their favorite places, hotels, food, things to do, the culture and unique moments to experience that will give you the foundation for an unforgettable trip.

Q. Where would you like to go that you have never been to before?

A. This list is a long one. I love to tie places and experiences together. So, for example, I would love to go to the World Cup wherever it happens to be in the world for that year. I would love to go to the French Open in Paris. I would love to see the band Radiohead in London. And on and on and on.
