My son won a few duckie lanyards at school for raising money for the American Heart Association. I’m not sure where he heard this, but he’s been saying, “Now, if I have these hanging outside my door, it means I don’t want to be disturbed.”
What? You’re 5!! 😉
Anyhow, that reminded me that I have a slew of press passes from concerts and red carpet events. The event that I was thrilled to cover was the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. John Kennedy Jr. was there and, as could be expected, he was very charismatic and charming. But the celebrity I was most excited to see was…Chris Rock! He and his date were alone behind a roped off area.
There had been all these rumors going around that you were not to look Rock in the eyes. One publicist friend warned me not to talk to him.
I saw him, waved and told him I liked his work. He could not have been any nicer.
Years later when I interviewed him, I told him that I met him briefly at the DNC, and he said, “I remember you! You said your friends were embarrassed for you, right? How are you?”
We joked about the fact that no one would talk to him that evening. 😉
