Breaking up is never easy. But for celebrities, they have the additional burden of having their private lives exposed in public.
Unlike Song Hye-Kyo and Song Joong-Ki — who in June quietly announced their plans to divorce — Ku Hye-Sun and Ahn Jae-Hyun are having a more contentious dissolution of marriage, thanks to a series of social media posts in which Ku claims she doesn’t want a divorce. Ahn responded by saying that what his wife acknowledged publicly doesn’t align with her actions.
The news shocked fans of the “Boys Over Flowers” actress and “The Beauty Inside” actor, who seemed to have had a storybook romance. They met on the set of their 2015 K-Drama “Blood.” They secretly dated, before confirming they were a couple in March 2016. On May 21, they married in a civil service ceremony, followed by a meal with their families. Bucking the trend of lavish weddings, the good-looking young couple touched netizens’ hearts by donating all the money they could’ve spent on a fancy reception to a hospital’s pediatric ward.
We wish both of them the best of luck as they navigate this turbulent period in their lives.
Because their breakup is depressing news, we wanted to give K-Drama fans some happier relationships to think about. So let’s celebrate some of our favorite actors and actresses.
Ji Sung and Lee Bo-Young
Like many other celebrity couples, Ji Sung and Lee Bo-Young met at work while working on their 2004 series “Save the Last Dance for Me.” Lee had a rule of not dating actors. But after the “Doctor John” star told her he would quit acting if that would be the only way she would go out with him, she gave him a chance. Ji married the “I Can Hear Your Voice” actress in 2013. Two years later, they welcomed a daughter. Earlier this year, they had a son.
Rain and Kim Tae-Hee
Singer, dancer and actor Rain married the love of his life, actress Kim Tae-Hee, in 2017 (after five years of dating). Regarded as the Nation’s Goddess in South Korea, Kim (“Stairway to Heaven,” “Iris”) said she was blessed to spend the rest of her life with Rain. Currently starring in “Welcome2Life,” Rain is known for his international fanbase, having co-starred in the Hollywood films “Speed Racer” and “Ninja Assassin,” as well as a much-publicized and good-natured “feud” with his famous fan, Stephen Colbert.
Yoo Ji-Tae and Kim Hyon-Jin
The “Healer” actor and “Hong Kong Express” actress met during their modeling days in 2003. They were friends for a few years before they began dating in 2006. In 2011, they married at Seoul’s tony Shilla Hotel. Their ceremony was officiated by World Vision Korea, for whom they were honorary ambassadors. Some of their cash wedding gifts were donated to the charitable organization. The couple have a 5-year-old son.
