Happy 2020! It’s the new year and you know what that means in the world of idols, right? It’s time for the annual Idol Star Athletics Championships — New Year Special! And this year, KOCOWA subscribers in North and South America can watch this athletic competition at the exact same time it’s airing in South Korea. How? Via KOCOWA’s LIVE feature, of course.
WHAT: Idol Star Athletics Championships — New Year Special (ISAC)
WHEN: The specials will be air during Korea’s Lunar New Year holiday:
⏱️ 5:50 p.m. KST January 24
⏱️ 10:40 p.m. KST January 25
⏱️ 5 p.m. KST January 27.
If you find the time difference confusing, don’t worry. LIVE figures out the time it will be available in real time in your specific time zone. So all you have to do is set your alarm clock as a reminder.
WHO: About 200 idols from 51 different groups will be represented in this fun athletic special. They include members of Monsta X, ATEEZ, Apink, NCT Dream, Loona, Oh My Girl, Mamamoo, Stray Kids, SF9, (G)I-DLE, the Boyz, WJSN, N.Flying, Gugudan, Golden Child and Cherry Bullet.
EVENTS: Wrestling, horseback riding, archery, track and field, penalty shootout, pitching, eSports.
LIVE OR TAPED: Though KOCOWA subscribers may watch the specials via LIVE at the same time as they air in South Korea, the idols taped most of the events on mid December in Incheon. They deserve to have a few days off to celebrate the new year with their families and friends, too, right?
HOSTS: The main MCs for the events are comedian Jun Hyun-moo, Twice‘s Dahyun and Super Junior‘s Leeteuk. Momoland‘s JooE, who previously was a floor MC, returns with AB6IX’s Lee Dae Hwi, who will make his debut. Other participants include Soobin (WJSN), Seunghee (Oh My Girl), DinDin, Hong Jin-young and Shindong (Super Junior).
WILL BTS BE THERE: I am sorry to report that they will not. BTS was preparing for their comeback and were preoccupied, as you can imagine. But you can catch many of their previous appearances right here.
If you’ve never watched Idol Star Athletic Championships in the past, you can catch up on past seasons going all the way back to 2014 here.
If you’re like me, you probably subscribe to various streaming services to watch your favorite shows. But LIVE is the perk that separates KOCOWA from the others. Some of you have already been watching K-pop LIVE at the same time as your Korean counterparts and enjoyed weekly shows such as “Music Bank K-Chart,” “Show! Music Core” and “SBS Inkigayo” at the exact same time as the folks in South Korea.
Let me know in the comments below if you’ll be watching the ISAC this weekend. What event are you most looking forward to? For me, it’s all about the track and field events! Here’s wishing everyone luck. Fighting!
