This is my last post of 2017. I had a bunch of important things I wanted to write about, so I decided to write about … cookies.😂
A long time ago when I was a tween, my brother and cousin worked on a construction site during their summer break from high school. Since I was too little to work, my job was to prepare their sack lunches. I would make deli sandwiches, put potato chips into little baggies and put them into brown paper bags with an apple or orange, a soda and homemade shortbread cookies.
It was just a basic shortbread cookie, filled with butter and sugar and it. was. so. delicious!
Recently, a work colleague sent me some Honolulu Cookie Company shortbread cookies. I remember having seen them at HC Korea in Incheon. I also saw them in Las Vegas.
I almost bought them at the International Market Place in Honolulu, but I didn’t, because I was afraid they might taste like grocery store cookies. You know what I mean — overly sweet and tasting of some kind of cloying flavor that you can’t quite pinpoint.
Imagine my surprise when I bit into these treats and they tasted as good (maybe even a little better … maybe) than the shortbread cookies I used to make. They were buttery, flavorful and not overly sweet.
I liked the Butter Macadamia cookies the best, because … butter. But #SonOfJae — aka the cookie connoisseur — preferred the Dark Chocolate Dipped Macadamia, because … chocolate.
FYI, each pineapple-shaped cookie measures about 2 ¾” x 1 ¾.” I know. They look huge in the above photo. But that’s ’cause I eat my cookies on children’s tea party sets. Why? Because it’s fun!
If I had gotten my act together this winter, I would’ve ordered some cookies to gift as holiday presents. To me, these cookies also look like mini Christmas trees.🎄
Anyhow, thank you all for reading my work and interacting with me on social media this year. And please be on the lookout for my first article of 2018. It’s an interview I did with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, which I wrote up for my syndicated column, “Go Away With …” That article will release on Tuesday January 2, 2018, in outlets such as the Los Angeles Time and the Chicago Tribune.
I hope you all have a safe and merry new year!

I love these, Jae! They’re better than the Scottish shortbread cookies in my opinion!
Sack lunches bring back all sorts of memories for me! All of us definitely used lunch as currency to trade food with each other (Learning business acumen early on lol). Fav cookie = snickerdoodles or straight up old style chocolate chip (home made kind).
At my son’s school, kids aren’t allowed to trade/share lunches anymore! I think due to food allergies.😢And you picked some fine cookies! 😋
Makes sense regarding allergies. Agreed agreed. And why thank you; I too enjoy the fine tastes with cookies 😆🍪
💕💕I love these cookies!! Just took some to work after coming back from Hawaii! Learned that Hawaiian airlines serves these cookies on their flights! My sisters flew that airline to Maui this week and kept talking about these exact same cookies. Thankfully when we were all together, we found the store and went crazy!
I love those cookies. Reminds me of holidays
☺❤️
Love HCC! A friend of mine brought some back and you bet I ate all of them lol! I didn’t know you can order online, will gave to check out
