It has been 13 years since “Coffee Prince” premiered, making a star out of Gong Yoo. Here’s a look at what the lead stars have been up to, as well as a memoriam for an actor who died much too young.
K-Dramas are a great escape from reality, but even though we know they’re fictional characters, some of them are so likable that we want to be them. At least for a while. Here are some of our faves from “Coffee Prince,” “Healer,” “My Love from the Star” and “While You Were Sleeping.”
Korean dramas are famous for asking viewers to believe that women — often the tiniest, daintiest actresses you could find — are going to be mistaken for men. But when they do it right, they do it so well.The best example I can think of is the gateway drama, “Coffee Prince,” starring Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun-Hye.
On the surface, “Coffee Prince” is your standard boy-meets-girl romantic comedy with a few roadblocks thrown in for good measure. Thanks to the chemistry shared by the attractive leads (Gong Yoo and Yoo Eun Hye), the series is highly watchable and I understand why so many fans are repeat viewers. But beneath the cute exterior, the series deals with issues such as sexual confusion, gender roles and poverty.
